Getting into open passing lanes is the most important task when a player is on offense. When someone on your team is in possession of the ball, the entire team, including defenders must try to get into an open passing lane. The team that is quicker to open a closed passing lane almost always wins.

The basic creative moving force in soccer is the triangle. Off-the-ball movement is created when the triangle is created again and again even without possession of the ball. By creating a triangle of options, the defense will be left confused.
