Ready for player development? Avila Soccer offers a solution for WAYA players. During the Fall program, our professional trainers meet your team at your outdoor practice field each week, delivering structured, high-quality training that accelerates development, and builds Soccer IQ. Your team trains together using a proven, progression-based system trusted by Austin families for more than 20 years.
Why This Training Model Works
Professional Coaches With Emotional Intelligence
Our coaches are selected for their ability to teach, motivate, and manage dynamic groups. They know how to read players, adjust difficulty instantly, and create an environment where every child feels both capable and challenged.
A Proven 15/70/15 Training Structure
Each session follows a three‑phase progression that blends structure, freedom, and timing intelligence. This rhythm is where players make their biggest developmental leaps.
The 3 Phases
15% Ball Control Drills
These activities form the foundation of our training model. They expose players to natural acceleration—whether it’s the ball dropping in juggling or rebounding off the wall—requiring players to refine their timing, smoothness, and control.
70% Focused Skill Development
Players move through Avila’s progression‑based technical curriculum: clean touches, ball control, movement mechanics, and coordination. This phase builds the technical stability they’ll need once the game becomes live.
15% Interactive Activity/Scrimmaging
Scrimmaging is the most powerful tool for developing Soccer IQ. Our coaches use live play to teach spacing, anticipation, decision‑making, disguise, and rhythm—skills that cannot be mastered through drills alone.
Acceleration‑Rich Environments (AREs)
AREs are training activities—like juggling, wall work, and other acceleration‑based tasks—that strengthen timing intelligence, smoothness, and creativity. These methods are central to Avila’s developmental philosophy and are rarely available in recreational settings.
Read about Coach Eryck's Acceleration Theory
The Avila theoretical framework (Coach Avila’s dissertation) proposes that creativity in invasion sports emerges from the integration of micro‑creativity (temporal intelligence) and macro‑creativity (spatial intelligence), unified through geometric loading — the timing‑based manipulation of angles, weight shifts, and defensive pressure. The paradigm positions the perception–action loop as the primal substrate of all movement intelligence and identifies Acceleration‑Rich Environments (AREs) as the primary developmental conditions that strengthen this loop through neurological agency.
Neurological agency is evidenced by the athlete’s ability to generate micro‑delays, which serve as the internal timing adjustments that give rise to geometric loading. Geometric loading, in turn, is the operative element of Soccer IQ — an emergent property of five components: connectivity, spacing, rotation, disguise, and pacing. In this way, geometric loading functions simultaneously as the expression of micro‑delays and the engine of spatial intelligence. Creativity is the perceptible outcome of this coupling between temporal intelligence and spatial intelligence — the phenomenon spectators recognize as creative play.
Why Juggling and Wall Work Matter
This framework also helps explain a long-observed, but rarely articulated, truth in soccer: The most creative players often have deep experience in juggling and wall work. Coaches and players have sensed this for decades, yet the reason has remained anecdotal—noticed, but not scientifically explained. At the heart of both practices is a shared, often-overlooked factor: acceleration. They are both AREs.
In juggling, the ball accelerates due to gravity (9.8 m/s²)—with “squared” being the key factor that defines true acceleration.
In wall work, the rebound accelerates upon contact, requiring ever-refined timing from the player.
