Description
This class is for breaking through performance plateaus.
Playing against new and different types of players can bring out the best in athletes! Scrimmage class is a resource for motivated players who need to learn to pull it all together during high-stakes moments. Sometimes the game is the best teacher!
The amazing thing about this product is that it features two full-time Avila Soccer staff members at once acting as on-field captains scrimmaging alongside players selected for the program (the format will be four against four with a coach on either team). This means there will only be limited player spots available per age group.
Competition or “scrimmaging” has never been the focus of Avila Soccer. Our brand is synonymous with skills training and development. However, we recognize that scrimmaging itself is a skill just like any other skill - such as shooting or trapping or dribbling.
The Dutch revere 4v4 scrimmaging as an efficient method of instruction used in their youth soccer system at the professional club level. The 4v4 structure can be characterized as small enough for everyone to get many touches on the ball, yet not so large that players can engage in “social loafing." By that we mean blending into the crowd and getting away with letting other players step up and make big plays.
Unlike teaching, a similar profession to coaching, a coach cannot simply collect a child’s homework, see where mistakes were made, and then correct accordingly. In the absence of a permanent record, the coach’s best tool is to correct kids on the spot as they are making tactical mistakes in real time. Diagnosis must be made immediately.
That is what Scrimmage Class is successfully doing: Injecting two coaches into an actual game setting who can direct the players not just verbally but through their own soccer skill. Don't miss this class!

Notes
To qualify for this program players must first interview (as schedules permit) to determine both commitment to the program and if the age appropriate group in question is the correct fit for their particular scrimmage level.
A verbal and written contract will also be a prerequisite for participation in this program. The contract will state that any player entering into this agreement will formally notify the Avila Soccer staff no later than the Wednesday before if they will not be able to attend a weekend session. In this way, Avila Soccer would have adequate time to find a temporary competitive replacement player for the group, and subsequently keep the flow of play progressive.
